Wilkie Roofing is built on three generations of hands-on roofing experience that began in the Northeast in the late 1940s. Vaughn grew up in Northern New Jersey surrounded by ladders, job sites and the sound of hammers long before he ever stepped onto a roof himself. His father ran one of the region’s most respected roofing companies from the 1970s through the 1990s, employing more than 100 team members and completing large-scale commercial and residential projects including factories, schools, churches, post offices and government facilities such as Picatinny Arsenal and Watervliet Arsenal. He was even featured in magazine articles for his work, often with his loyal dog Doc sitting beside him on ladders and rooftops — a small detail that perfectly captured how deeply roofing was woven into his everyday life.

Roofing was never just work in the Wilkie family. It was a way of life.

Vaughn’s grandfather and father roofed together before his grandfather eventually opened a hardware store and his father continued building the company that would become known throughout the Northeast for its craftsmanship and reliability. Vaughn didn’t inherit a title. He earned his place. His father believed in old-school training, which meant Vaughn started at the bottom like everyone else. He learned repairs before replacements, materials before management and workmanship before words. No shortcuts, no favoritism and no exceptions.

That foundation shaped him into the roofer he is today.

After years of hands-on experience across every roofing system imaginable including asphalt, rubber, TPO, hot tar, roll roofing, metal, slate and tile, Vaughn moved south in 2009 and launched his own company, continuing the family legacy in the Lowcountry. Since then he has worked in every environment from northern frost to Florida heat to Charleston hurricanes, giving him a rare depth of knowledge that only comes from decades in the field.

Wilkie Roofing isn’t a sales-driven company. There are no commissioned reps and no inflated pricing to cover corporate overhead. Vaughn is an owner-operator who stays closely involved in each project, ensuring every job is completed with the same level of care and pride his family built their name on for generations.

His business has grown almost entirely through word of mouth for one reason: reputation.
